Grasping Machu Picchu: Tours

Pack your bags, Graspers, it’s time for the ultimate South African adventure! From conquering Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain and braving the world’s highest bungee jump, to safari drives alongside wild animals, exploring mysterious caves, and chilling in our very own castle and beachfront villa, this trip has it all. Think adrenaline by day and comfort by night: no camping, no roughing it, just the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. For nine days we’ll hike, laugh, swim, dance, and share once-in-a-lifetime moments together, all while soaking in the epic landscapes of South Africa and creating the kind of memories you’ll still be telling stories about years down the line.

WHY VENTURE SOUTH AFRICA WITH GRASP THE ADVENTURE:

We've got countless reasons but here are some:

At Grasp The Adventure, our mission has always been to ignite a love for the outdoors, inspire bold exploration, and create bonds as powerful as the mountains we hike together. We don’t just travel, we connect, laugh, and grow as a family. This is exactly the kind of journey we’re inviting you on. Beyond the castles, caves, and coastlines of South Africa, you’ll find friendships that run as deep as the forests we explore and memories as wild as the safaris we ride through. Whether we’re heaving, panting, and sweating up Table Mountain, plunging off the world’s highest bungee bridge, or swapping stories and silly games in our beachfront villa, this trip is as much about people as it is about place.

This adventure isn’t just about ticking off activities, it’s about reconnecting with nature, with yourself, and with others who share the same adventurous spirit. We’ll horseback ride through sprawling reserves, hike inside ancient caves, and get up close with elephants, lions, and cheetahs. We’ll stay in unique and comfortable accommodations, from a fairytale-like castle in Knysna to a private villa overlooking the ocean, and bond over stories, laughter, and meals that will have you licking your fingers. The activities we’ve chosen will spark pride and excitement, but they’re accessible for anyone with a moderate fitness level. If you’re unsure about your readiness, reach out, we can send you a simple fitness test and even a plan to help you prepare.

And while adventure is at the heart of this trip, it’s only the beginning. We’ll chase waterfalls in canyons, tube down rivers surrounded by lush forests, wander vibrant towns, and watch penguins waddle along the beaches of Cape Town. A foodie? South Africa will spoil you with flavor, every stop brings a new chance to savor mouthwatering dishes, from vibrant local specialties to indulgent dinners by the water. And the best part? We’ve got you fully covered with three delicious meals a day included in the itinerary. Every day brings a new kind of thrill, some peaceful, some heart-racing, all adding up to a journey that’s as diverse as it is unforgettable.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Cape Town

Arrive in Cape Town at your own time although we recommend getting there early enough to explore the city a little. In the evening, we will head to one of the most delicious restaurants on the V&A Waterfront for a three-course meal; this will be our first introduction to the delightful South African cuisine.

Day 2: Table Mountain
The adventure begins today! After breakfast, we head to the staple of Cape Town, Table Mountain. It is a 3–4-hour hike to the top of Table Mountain. Once at the top, you can grab a coffee and enjoy the stunning views. From here, you can opt to abseil off the summit (this activity is optional and not included in the price of the trip. The abseil is off the top of Table Mountain at an altitude of 1000 meters. You will abseil down for 200 meters and then take a 30 min–1 hour scenic hiking route back to the summit). Next, we take the cable car back down to the city and enjoy the rest of the afternoon exploring as you want. In the evening, we head to V&A Waterfront to enjoy dinner and some awesome street performances.

Day 3: Game Drive Safari

After an early breakfast, we make our way to Botlierskop Game Reserve. The drive takes around 4–5 hours, but it’s worth every minute as we leave Cape Town and cruise down the iconic Garden Route. This stretch of coastline is considered one of the most scenic drives in the world, winding through dramatic ocean cliffs, lush forests, mountain passes, and sleepy seaside towns. Fun fact: the Garden Route gets its name from the incredible biodiversity and greenery that line the journey, making the road trip itself part of the adventure.

We arrive just in time for a breathtaking sunset game drive through the reserve, where we’ll get up close and personal with countless animals, including most of the famous Big Five. During the drive, we’ll stop for a scenic picnic in the wild, and if we’re lucky, we may even spot giraffes and other roaming wildlife while we eat... a proper African moment. From there, we continue to Knysna where we’ll enjoy dinner at a delicious restaurant before checking into our castle for two magical nights.

Day 4: Storms River Adrenaline

From our castle base, we head out early to Storms River for a day packed with action. We kick things off at the legendary Bloukrans Bridge, home to the highest commercial bridge bungee jump in the world at 216 meters (this jump is completely optional and not included in the trip price). Those choosing not to leap can grab a coffee by the bridge and cheer the jumpers on, or opt for the SkyWalk (additional cost) to visit the platform and feel the thrill without stepping off the edge.

Once the adrenaline settles, we head into the lush forests of Tsitsikamma National Park for an unforgettable black water tubing experience. We’ll float and ride down the river through the jungle in inflatable tubes before switching things up onto stand-up paddles, a wildly unique way to experience the wilderness, surrounded by cliffs, greenery, and the sounds of flowing water.

After an epic day, we return to our castle for a delicious homemade meal, gathering around the grand dining table with incredible views all around us. Expect laughter, storytelling, and plenty of reliving the day’s biggest moments… especially from those who chose to jump.

Day 5: Wildlife & Canyoning → Wilderness Beachside Cabins

We say goodbye to the castle after breakfast and start the day with a visit to the Knysna Elephant Park, an incredible opportunity to get up close to these gentle giants. Here, we’ll learn all about elephants, their behavior and conservation, and even have the chance to hand-feed them, a special, humbling experience you won’t forget.

From there, we make our way to the canyon for an adventurous session of canyoning filled with abseiling, cliff jumping, ziplining, swimming, and hiking. Expect cold water, big laughs, and that unbeatable feeling of earning every moment as we move through nature’s obstacle course.

After drying off, we drive towards Wilderness, where we’ll check into our cozy beachside cabins for the first of two nights by the ocean. Dinner will be at a beautiful restaurant in the Wilderness Beach village, ending the day with great food, salty air, and the sound of waves in the background.

Day 6: Caves, Ostriches & Wilderness Beach Sunset

After breakfast, we drive to Oudtshoorn where we kick things off with a visit to the Safari Ostrich Farm. Here, you’ll learn all about these fascinating birds and their gigantic, near-indestructible eggs. If they like you, they might even give you a quirky little neck massage… and if they really like you, you could get your first kiss... from an ostrich.

From there, we head to the legendary Cango Caves for an unforgettable 2-hour adventure inside one of the largest accessible cave systems in the world. This cave tour involves squeezing through tight spaces, navigating narrow passages, and moving through dark chambers, so if you’re claustrophobic, let us know and we’ll arrange an option that suits you best.

After all that exploring, we stop for early dinner at the renowned The Hussar Grill - George, where those feeling adventurous can even try ostrich meat for the full local experience. We then return to our seaside cabins in Wilderness in time to enjoy a beautiful sunset and a relaxed evening by the beach.

Day 7: Wilderness Beach → Cape Town

We’ll spend the morning soaking up our final moments by the beach in Wilderness, swim in the ocean, relax on the sand, play a few games, or simply sit back and enjoy the salty breeze one last time. It’s a slow, easy start to balance out the adventure-packed days behind us.

Around 12 pm, we begin our 4–5 hour drive back to Cape Town, taking in the scenic landscapes along the way. Once we check into our hotel and have time to refresh, we’ll head out to the iconic V&A Waterfront, where you’ll have free time to shop for clothes, gifts, and souvenirs, explore the buzzing promenade, and take in the harbor views. We’ll then meet for dinner at the Waterfront, enjoying another lively evening together in the heart of Cape Town.

Day 8: Lion’s Head & Cape Peninsula

If you have the energy to wake up before sunrise today, you can join us as we hike to the top of Lion's Head for incredible sunrise views over Camps Bay and the surrounding beaches. Otherwise, you can choose to lie in, and meet us at Camps Bay once we’re done.

We’ll have breakfast in Camps Bay before driving around the peninsula to explore some of Cape Town’s picturesque and historic surrounding towns. We’ll continue on to Cape Point, where we’ll stand at the dramatic cliffs overlooking the meeting of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. For those wanting to elevate the experience, another optional activity (not included in the trip price) is renting the iconic Cobra GT for the Cape Point road trip, cruising Chapman’s Peak in that classic beauty is an experience in itself. From there, we visit Boulders Beach to see the famous African penguins up close… not exactly befriend them though, they’re surprisingly feisty. After returning to our hotel for a refreshing shower and short rest, we head out to a traditional South African restaurant for our farewell dinner, complete with live performances to end the trip on a high.

Day 9: Departure

It is time to say goodbye. After a week of grasping endless adventures together, we are now bonded by the mountains that we hiked, and the stories that we share. We bid our Grasper family goodbye as each one heads back home.
